The legislative update member meeting originally scheduled for March 12, 2024 has been canceled since Legislative Action Day is Wednesday March 13, 2024. Instead there will be a special meeting of the Board starting at 6:00 pm in the boardroom at Emmanuel Freiden’s Church, 218 Nott Terrace, Schenectady, NY 12307. Agenda items will include: Updates on Family to Family class, digital document sharing, planning upcoming events for 2024, and volunteer needs. All NAMI members are welcome to attend this meeting.
03/13/2024 – Legislative Action Day – Telling Our Stories
Legislative Action Day will be March 13, 2024 at the Legislative Office Building in Albany. Cindy Sood, President of the NAMI Schenectady chapter will be attending, but she is looking for one or two NAMI Schenectady members who are not currently on the Board to join her in telling our stories to the Advocate for Mental Health at the Legislature. Spring 2024 – Family to Family Education Program
Our NAMI Schenectady affiliate will be offering the NAMI signature education program, Family-to-Family, right here in Schenectady this spring. It is an eight-week program, taught by experienced, trained educators who themselves have family members with mental illness. The course, like all NAMI courses, is free-of-charge, and this course is specifically designed for adults who have loved ones living with serious mental illness. See the flyer below. One of the instructors will get back to you and ask you a few questions to make sure that the course will meet your needs. The course is tentatively scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 14th in the Emmanuel Friedens Church on Nott Terrace at Chapel St.
02/13/2024 – NAMI Schenectady Membership Meeting
Our NAMI Schenectady affiliate will hold its February meeting on Tuesday, February 13th at its new meeting place, Emmanuel Friedens Church, 218 Nott Terrace, downtown Schenectady on the corner of Chapel Street, behind the big MVP building. The meeting place will open at 5:30 pm. The meeting agenda is as follows:

6:30-8:00 Telling Our Stories – This program will be led by our guests from NAMI New York State, Matt Shapiro and Sharon Horton, to help us prepare for up-coming Legislative Action Day in Albany. We will learn about NAMI NYS’s 2024 Legislative Agenda, so that we know what issues and specific legislation we need to address with our community’s members within the State legislature as it works on the NYS budget for the coming year. With Telling Our Stories we will learn how to put together and tell our personal experience stories that relate to the actions we want the legislature to take in order to improve the quality of life of those with mental health issues. NAMI Schenectady is happy to announce that it will be holding its first Board meeting of 2024 on Tuesday, January 23rd, 6-8 PM at the Emmanuel Friedens Church, 218 Nott Terrace, Schenectady, NY 12307.
